ICT Mark: Readiness for streamlined assessment

Author: Naace Office
The streamlined approach is designed for schools with 'good' ICT. In such a school, there is likely to be less need to use the self-review framework as a development tool so the focus for them might be to have their self-review validated by an external assessor. This approach might be appropriate for Naacemark or ICT Mark schools due for renewal.

How do you know if a school is ready?

Possible approach 1: A school you do not know well

Send the school a copy of the Diagnostic Tool and ask them to discuss their response. Ideally, visit the school to discuss their responses; key questions throughout are ‘how do you know?’ and ‘how can you prove it?’. If they answer ‘yes’ to all of the questions and can provide positive answers to the key questions they are likely to be ready for a streamlined assessment. Suggest that the school works through the self-review framework, ticking the descriptors in all elements, strands and aspects. If the school is at the ICT Mark threshold in all aspects, then complete the recommendation form and submit it. Naace will contact the school to say that your recommendation for a streamlined assessment has been accepted. The school should then complete the ‘Streamlined Assessment Commentary’ document and submit it electronically to Naace, along with their downloaded self-review framework.

Possible approach 2: A school you know well

If you know a school well and are confident that they are at the ICT Mark threshold, you can submit a recommendation form for a Streamlined Assessment, with the agreement of the school, and suggest that they complete the ‘tick boxes’ on the self-review framework and start to complete the ‘Streamlined Assessment Commentary’ document. On completion of these two documents they can apply to Naace for an assessment.

Can I assess the school?

If you have not supported the school through the process of self-review, you can recommend and assess the school. Discussing a school’s response to the diagnostic tool does not constitute support for the self-review process.
