Appointment of Temporary Professional Officer

The Board of Management wish to appoint a temporary, part-time Professional Officer to cover aspects of the Chief Executive role. The major task will be to represent Naace at key meetings with other organisations such as government agencies, LAs, subject associations, companies and trade associations reporting back to the Board of Management. The postholder will also provide responses to Government consultations and white papers. The range and balance of duties will be subject to change in line with Naace requirements.

Hours

22 hours per week

Mode of Working

The position will provide flexibility to work from a home base. Attendance will be required from time to time at meetings at locations across the UK and in particular in London.

Appointment

Temporary, for three months initially, but may be extended on a monthly basis.

Remuneration

Circa £51,000 per annum pro rata.

Contractual Arrangement

To be confirmed to suit individual applicants' current circumstances including secondment or consultant contract.

Principal Accountabilities

Communication with Members and key stakeholders

  • Provide information and advice to Naace Members through a variety of channels and contribute to the representation of Naace at all levels;
  • Provide professional input to current projects, CPD events and other activities organised directly by Naace or in partnership with other bodies;
  • Support and advise the Board of Management on the impact and implications of Government policy and strategy implementation;
  • Provide support to the elected Members of the Board of Management to represent the Association at all levels with other organisations and professional associations and in a wide variety of contexts;
  • Provide responses to relevant Government consultations and white papers;
  • Maintain regular contact with the Naace Board of Management, Naace Members, Naace Sponsoring partners, Government bodies and officers of organisations working and liaising with Naace;
  • Provide a range of information and advice to Naace Members, researching and liaising with external agencies as appropriate;
  • Keep up to date with major developments and trends relating to the use of ICT in education and the development of national government policy in this area.

Management Information

  • Prepare reports for the Board of Management in relation to meetings attended on behalf of Naace;
  • Prepare reports for the Board of Management on progress towards the One Year Plan where appropriate;
  • Contribute to reviews to aid continuous improvement and to prepare information for strategic decisions by the Board of Management.

Quality Assurance and Customer Relations

  • Ensure that requests for information, complaints and compliments from Members, Sponsoring partners and other contacts are dealt with within the agreed timescale.

General

  • Carry out other duties, consistent with the responsibilities of the post, as directed by the Board Member responsible for HR.

Person Specification

The following criteria are appropriate for this post. You must meet the essential criteria in order to be shortlisted and it would be advantageous if you could meet the desirable criteria.

Essential

  • A degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Substantial professional experience of teaching and/or using/supporting ICT in education.
  • Experience of providing services to educational professionals.
  • Experience of senior leadership of ICT in an institution or local authority, Ofsted inspection, or other ICT leadership experience.
  • Substantial management experience in a complex organisational setting.
  • Being well informed and up-to-date with the major developments and trends relating to the use of ICT in education and in particular the development of national government policy in this area.
  • Experience of PR and effective working with external organisations such as children's services and local authorities, government agencies, subject associations, commercial companies and trade associations.
  • Excellent writing and presentational skills.
  • Effective planning and prioritising skills.
  • Self motivation and the ability to work with initiative and without close supervision.
  • Ability to be flexible and prepared to exercise initiative in the execution of the duties.
  • Experience of working collaboratively and very successfully with professional peers.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that will maintain and develop good relationships and effective communication with Naace elected members, Naace members and senior personnel in other organisations.
  • Fluent use of ICT for personal productivity.
  • A commitment to achieving the aims and objectives of the Association.

  • A commitment to the maintenance of complete financial probity and professional integrity within the Naace team and the Association as a whole.

Desirable

  • Have a home base within easy reach of Central London.
