According to DCSF, “The Classroom Quality Standards (CQS) provide a universal, classroom level, self-evaluation tool to support schools in improving provision for their more able, gifted and talented pupils. A focus area has been created to provide an opportunity for teachers and others working in schools, settings and local authorities to review and comment on the current version of the CQS and the drafts of the linked subject-specific CQS. Following this consultation, and taking into account your feedback, revised versions of the generic CQS and the CQS subject amplification will be published. These will be provided on CD-ROMs and made available free to all schools.”  Visit http://ygt.dcsf.gov.uk/Content.aspx?contentId=790&contentType=4 for the DCSF Young Gifted and Talented site.

These classroom standards are part of a larger institutional self-evaluation framework for gifted and talented education. They have been developed as part of the Secondary National Strategy’s focus on G+T, and are written for English, Maths, Science and ICT. We invite all members to contribute, whether you have a specific interest in this area or whether your expertise lies elsewhere. The CQS should apply in all phases.

You can contribute to Naace’s response via the wiki on the Naace website or by email to paul.springford@naace.org To use the wiki, log in to the site and choose Naace Knowledge from the Special Tools box on the right of the screen. We need to have your input by 23rd April 2008.
