Members Night
Sponsors Hospitality Party
Tuesday 3rd March 2009, Hilton Blackpool
The Event
The event itself will be managed by the School House Partnership, a new sponsor of Naace. In particular, it will be hosted by Julie Frankland and Tim Scratcherd, who will introduce all performances, censor if necessary, demonstrate and coordinate the Poetry, and coordinate the judging. (Tim will also perform, interminably, if there are no other entries. You have been warned……)
The event will start at 8:30pm and finish no later than 11:30pm, with at least one interval. Activities of all three kinds will be interspersed throughout the evening, culminating in the judging. There will also be odd pauses to allow us to talk to each other. The balance between the activities will depend upon the number of entries.
Aim
To deliver a highly engaging and interactive social event on the first night of the Strategic Conference. The event will:
– Provide an opportunity for sponsors to engage with the membership within the context of creativity and partnership
– Showcase the talents of the membership & sponsors
– Foster wide ranging social interaction, such as chit chat, joke telling, tattle and innuendo
– Generally encourage esprit de corps
– Be fun!
There will be three categories:
• Showoff
– Members will be offered a three minute slot for a performance of any appropriate kind. This could be:
• A song by a band, A monologue by an individual, A comedy turn (how many members does it take to….)
– Members will be asked to provide a title and description, and they will be offered a timetable in which they can book a slot. Depending upon demand, members with aspirations may book more than one slot, and these may be consecutive, if a performance requires more than three minutes. Six minutes is the maximum time allowed.
– This will be competitive, with the winners found through the use, by everyone attending, of a voting system towards the end of the event.
• Hash Up
– Members will be offered a two minute slot to be used to demonstrate any form of appropriate creative digital electronic product, such as a mashup, or a clip, or a presentation.
– Again, members will be asked to provide a title and description, and offered a timetable in which they can book a slot. This also will be competitive, with the winners found through the use, by everyone attending, of a voting system towards the end of the event.
• Poetry
– This will be a number of interactive reading sessions, designed to engage and entertain everyone in a text. The text will be shown in small sections, and a reader of that section only will be identified randomly from the crowd, by a simple means such as a random number.
Some texts will be chosen in advance, and then some others will be nominated by the audience for a further reading. This will require the use of roving microphones. This will not be competitive.
