ICT Mark: Streamlined approach to assessment

Author: Naace Office
The streamlined approach is designed for schools with 'good' ICT. In such a school, there is likely to be less need to use the self-review framework as a development tool so the focus for them might be to have their self-review validated by an external assessor through a more streamlined approach. The assessment process is exactly the same for all schools; it is simply the preparation/approach that is streamlined.

Recommendations

A school needs to be recommended for the ICT Mark by an assessor, an ICT consultant, LA or partner organisation or have previously held the ICT Mark ie they are up for renewal. They are not required to provide a commentary for every aspect of the full self-review framework prior to the assessment visit. However, they are required to:

  • identify their position on the self-review framework (tick the boxes) to ensure that the threshold has been reached in every aspect
  • provide a strand level commentary that shows review and reflection on practice by completing the ‘Prompts for Streamlined Assessment Commentary’ document.

The person recommending a school should use the ‘ICT Mark – Recommendation for Streamlined Assessment’ form.

You may find it useful to use the ‘SA Diagnostic Prompts’ document to help verify whether you think the school is ready.

Renewing your ICT Mark

A school wishing to renew their ICT Mark accreditation can submit for a streamlined assessment without being recommended. However, they may find it useful to use the ‘SA Diagnostic Prompts’ document to help them check whether they are ready.

Registering for an assessment using a streamlined approach

Schools should register for an assessment in the usual way using the online registration form on the Becta website. Follow the Next Steps guidance at www.naace.co.uk/821. The only difference is that you complete the Steamlined Commentary document and do not need to provide detailed evidence and commentary on the actual self-review framework. You must still use the self-review framework to indicate that you have reached the ICT Mark threshold levels.

When you are ready please send us the booking form and your completed Streamlined Comentary form.
