ICT Co-ordinators Course

For some time there has been a need to encourage and support teachers aspiring to become or recently appointed as ICT co-ordinators. Martyn Wilson and Janet Roberts of Hampshire County Council have worked with Naace and Nottingham Trent University (NTU) to develop a course aimed at new and aspiring ICT coordinators.

Information for course providers

Overview

The course will

  • Develop ICT coordinator’s expertise
  • Encourage new teachers to see ICT coordination as a potential career route or career development opportunity
  • Help reduce the shortage of good ICT coordinators
  • Increase and improve networking between ICT coordinators

Course participants

This is a course for teachers who want to become ICT co-ordinators from both the primary and secondary sectors.

Accreditation

It will be accredited by Nottingham Trent University and teachers completing the course will be awarded 30 credit points at level 3 which could be counted towards a Masters degree.

Course outcome

By the end of the course teachers will be able to co-ordinate the curriculum delivery of ICT in a primary or secondary school.

Course delivery

The course is designed to be delivered through face to face sessions comprising two whole days, plus four twilight sessions and seven written assignments. Students will be supported through electronic communication. Providing the standard seven assignments are completed the course format can be determined by the provider.

Curriculum

  • ICT and ICT in subject areas of the curriculum.
  • Models of delivery, assessment, recording and reporting, schemes of work, monitoring and evaluating progress and good quality teaching.

Vision and development planning

  • Staffing and staff development (recruitment and interviews)
  • IT in administration
  • Hardware and software issues

Delivering the course

Course materials are distributed via the Nottingham Trent University Managed Learning Environment (MLE). If you provide courses and would like to offer this course as part of your programme you will need to enrol with Naace. Those providers who are accredited under the Naacemark for Service Providers will be automatically accepted as quality assured.

Tutors' pack

The pack is provided to all approved tutors and contains information about:

  • Enrolling your course members with the NTU
  • Teaching the course
  • Accessing the materials on the NTU Managed Learning Environment (MLE)
  • Marking, moderating and assessment of assignments
  • Contact telephone numbers or email addresses

  • Feedback or evaluation forms for Course members and tutors.

Cost

The cost per provider for the materials and support is £1750, plus £55 per student annually. This covers the costs for one academic year. Individual providers may set the cost of the course to their potential students.

Current Providers

This year the course is running at the following centres around the country: Greenwich, Harrow, Kingston, Hampshire, Cambridgeshire,  Tyne and Wear, Lancashire, Isle of Wight, Northamptonshire, Hull.
