The Naace ICT CPD Award Scheme

The Naace ICT CPD Award Scheme is intended for educators interested in developing their knowledge and practice regarding ICT. Its four certificates enable candidates to select a point of entry according to their personal or professional needs. It also provides a route through to Certified Naace Professional (CNP) status enabling candidates to gather evidence for this accreditation.

The Award Certificates

Participatory

The participatory certificate provides evidence of having taken part in an ICT professional development experience. It is available via Naace or one of its accredited service providers. For example, if you attend a Naace course or undergo a course on the ICTCPD4Free site, you will receive a certificate at the end of the course. As a result you may wish to use the knowledge gained during this experience to access one of the other certificates.

Extended, Enhanced and Advanced Certificates

Apart from the initial ‘participatory’ certificate there are three further certificates to choose from – extended, enhanced and advanced. These certificates are only available online from Naace. A candidate must provide a proposal and submission and is supported by an experienced mentor. The differences are:

Extended

The extended certificate, gives candidates the opportunity to investigate an area of interest, teaching strategy or idea they wish to take further based on the content of a professional development experience they have undertaken.

Application

The opportunity to apply skills and concepts from a CPD experience in your own context with learners or colleagues. There is an intention to share it with colleagues in your place of work.

2 to 3 weeks to half a term.Apply and develop ideas you have not tried before to improve your personal professional practice and evaluate their worth in a real context. Share your new practice with colleagues so they are aware of it and try it themselves.
  • finding out more about aspects covered in the course and exploring ways in which it might benefit your class or school;
  • creating or revising lesson plans using aspects covered in the course, trialing them and recording your observations;
  • having introduced aspects covered in the course, evaluating its impact on your practice.
  • investigate an area for development in the school, propose a solution and share with colleagues.

Enhanced

Candidates are required to undertake a more sustained piece of professional development that includes wider research.

Reflection

The opportunity to engage in small scale personal research, including effective practice, literature and research findings, and comparing it with your own practical experience. You will intend to share your learning with, and influence the practice of, a wider group of colleagues beyond your place of work.

One to two terms.Look wider than one’s own personal experience to explore previous research and pedagogical developments. Considering how the development of your practice might enhance the professional knowledge of others. Refresh your study skills with the view to further postgraduate study.
  • widen your knowledge and experience of an aspect of the course by observing other teachers, visiting other schools, then being observed and using co-coaching in order to apply your learning;
  • investigating aspects covered in the course or areas for development in an ICT Mark report, then planning and evaluating ways in which you and others will develop this in your own school or setting;
  • creating or revising a policy or scheme of work as a result of the course, planning and trialing changes to practice;
  • developing practice after considering the evidence provided by relevant literature and research findings regarding an aspect of the course.

Advanced

This certificate is aimed at those who want evidence of their sustained professional development, skills in specified areas and/or support for the professional development of others.

Analysis

The opportunity to reflect and analyse in greater depth, with reference to a knowledge base that includes literature or other research findings. You will intend to share your learning with, and as a result intend to influence the wider profession.
Two to three termsUndertake research that makes a contribution to the knowledge base. Provide evidence that will enable you to work towards gaining Naace Certified Professional status, applying for the threshold or Excellent Teacher Status.
  • working with a cluster of schools to respond to local, regional or national initiatives such as the ICT Mark and enhance particular aspects of school practice;
  • developing a coaching or mentoring programme for other teachers in a locality;
  • preparing and publishing your reflection and research with regard to innovative practice in a journal eg. Naace’s Advancing Education;
  • enabling application of your school for an ICT Award scheme.

Cost

Extended £225 (plus VAT)

Enhanced £275 (plus VAT)

Advanced £445 (plus VAT)

Naace Members, including School Members, benefit from a discount of £50 per award.

These certificates also provide an opportunity for candidates to progress to Certified Naace Professional status should they wish to. Candidates can use work undertaken within the Advanced Certificate Award scheme to either prepare for, or provide evidence of, prior learning against the units found in the Professional Capability dimension of CNP.
