The target for the project was the setting up 200 children with their own interactive web-sites in 4 weeks! The idea was to set up safe on-line web accounts using www.think.com with primary children and their teachers and to help them appreciate the potential that Web 2.0 technologies have to enhance teaching and learning.
Read more...The project ran for 4 weeks and was a joint venture sponsored by The Oracle Education Foundation and MirandaNet abased at the Institute of Education in London. The project sponsored several other schools and culminated in a meeting to share work and achievements on July 10th 2008 at the MirandaNet's 'WLE centre'(World e-Citizens) based at the Institute of Education in London. Globalisation: Case Study 1 - The 'Send my friend to school' project!
The project created the world's biggest human hand-holding chain of children, to highlight the 80 million primary aged children who do not go to school, for Germany's Prime Minister, Angela Merkel, the European Union and the G8 Summit leaders.

Our resources were then uploaded to our Twinspace site at: http://my.twinspace.etwinning.net/sendmyfriend?l=en and the information passed on the Global Campaign for Education. The Powergen Weather Reports Project and ICTThis article won the Chris Robson Memorial Prize 2000, and was first published in MAPE Focus on Science Pack, Autumn 2000. Roy outlines how children took part in the weather reports project and made use of software applications including data-handling, word-processing as well as weather-monitoring equipment.
