An Open Badge is a new online standard to recognise and verify learning. Open Badges enable learners to get recognition for learning that happens anywhere and then share that learning to different platforms, collections and social networks. An Open Badge is represented by an image with digital data (meta data) woven into it about who has issued the badge, the criteria and tasks the earner had to complete to earn the award and evidence from the earner that they have completed the brief and tasks e.g. a link to a blog or a video. All this data can be displayed on a social media profile page via the badge image, so visitors can easily see the earner’s skills, qualities and achievements.
