I am currently Chair of the Board of Management of Naace and have been a member since 1988.
I am the Independent Chair of the ENni Innovation Forum which draws together stakeholders from across the education landscape in Northern Ireland to review and develop the use of the C2K / Capita educational technology service in schools.
Since 2010, I have been a board member and, more recently, the Vice-Chair of Educating for Leadership (E4L), a not-for-profit organisation based in Alaska that works with students, schools, communities, and other organizations in Alaska, across the USA, and internationally to promote student leadership through contextual learning. E4L developed the “Modern Blanket Toss” project to engage students in remote rural communities in a STEM curriculum through the use of UAVs and 3D printing for environmental science investigations. This work has been recognised by a $2,000,000 grant from the US National Science Foundation to spread the work to other states.
Prior to my “retirement” in 2012, I was the Strategic Director (ICT) for the government’s Building Schools for the Future programme.
