Naace has a key role in the development and delivery of the ICT Mark working with our partner, the awarding body, Becta. The ICT Mark is an accreditation for schools who have reached nationally agreed levels within the Becta self-review framework.

Welcome to the Spring 2010 issue of Advancing Education in which we bring you Naace's draft guidance on Securing Innovation under BSF Managed Service Contracts, a critique of current approaches to research on the impact of ICT in education, a paper demonstrating exactly why learning platforms are so important when the weather turns nasty and a fascinating paper on children using communications technologies. Add in the annual report on the BETT show, news on Vital, an update on JISC collections and more and there is plenty to keep readers happy as they make their way to Blackpool for the Strategic Conference.

A wide range of Primary classroom activities, reviews and resources has been developed and published over the years originally by MAPE and, more recently since the merger in 2004, by Naace.

The Naace Annual Strategic Conference and Exhibition opened in Torquay in early March 2008. This is the definitive ICT Conference in the UK for all those involved in advancing education through the use of modern technologies in learning and teaching.

A collection of resources has been prepared to support ICT Mark Assessors in the assessment of schools for the ICT Mark Award. Schools may also find some of these materials useful in preparing for assessment. These cover guidance for assessors, details of the assessment process, assessment and reporting pro-formas. All ICT Mark Assessors need to keep up to date with this area, as only the current documents held here are valid.

The Direct2U service was a weekly email service produced by Becta in partnership with Naace. The service was for primary teachers and offered lesson plans featuring ICT in activities based on six subject strands. The service is discontinued but you can view the lesson plans in this archive.

In February 2008, Parliament announced its intention to undertake an Inquiry into the National Curriculum and invited submissions of written evidence.

The Children, Schools and Families Committee is undertaking an inquiry into the National Curriculum. Following a call for written evidence on 4 February 2008, Naace prepared a submission which is published here.
